Humans have been granted an inherent status by the UN since 1948.
"On December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Following this historic act the Assembly called upon all Member countries to publicise the text of the Declaration and "to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories"
As cetaceans are intelligent, self-aware beings, Cetacea Defence believes that the World Charter for Cetacea is long overdue!
The aim of the Charter is for it to be used as a tool, for you to approach the legislators in your country, county, state, province, town or wherever you live, to ask them to adopt this Charter into their written constitution. When this happens, when an issue arises concerning Cetacea, then there should not be any conflict in policy, be it for permission to open a new dolphin show, expand a fishery, or resume whaling.
Cetacea Defence cordially invites you to be a partner in the historic document and help in its promotion and finding signatories.
Cetacea Defence hopes that you will publically display the Charter for Cetacea and sign our supporters list and keep us updated in any success you have in getting your legislators to adopt it. The best way, may be to print -off the preamble and articles and send it by regular mail.
Can you help in translating this Charter into other languages?
In promoting this Charter so begins the real work!

If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less, but to dream more, dream all the time.
