We should not make distinction in saving animals. Those who live in the great realm of waters are equally beautiful and intelligent as those we see while walking on land or flying up high. They cary the wisdom of their own. And for that we must respect them.

This Charter is just one of many important goals that we as compassionate individuals have to push for. Never ever think that we can not make a difference, nobody said it was going to be easy! But Charter's such as this will hopefully stand the test of time. If out planet we 'share' is not to be destroyed along with its billions of unique species, of which we are only one. We must support this Charter, to remind us that 'out of sight - out of mind' destruction of our seas and marine habitats can not go on unchallenged. For the sake of all living creatures we must rise to the task.

Subject:Action as communication

The most endangered of the cetacean species are the various river dolphins and some species limited to coastal areas, such as the presumed extinct Lipotes vexillifer, the Yangtse Dolphin, humans know very little about cetacean lives.
For a very quick overview of some of these most endangered, please go to http://www.southwest.com.au/~kirbyhs/pinkdolphins.html
While those of you conversant with science understand the many areas of trauma inflicted by our human activities on the earth, the reverence for life, which is carried on through individuation and held but once uniquely by each living organism, is of vital importance to nurture through action. In this way, through the most important communication of respect, we enhance life rather than diminish it.
This is always our most important relationship with others, born of the same cells as us.

Our aim is to protect all marine beings and to bring to public notice the fact that they all deserve recognition as having the right to life, liberty and the freedom to live out their natural lives free from human intervention. We understand that whales and dolphins and cetaceans in general, need special consideration as they are sentient beings who obviously have a joy of life. Hopefully soon the seas won't be plundered for the 'fruits of the sea' by humans.

Please stop the killing of our ocean mammals. As you recall a few decades ago these animals were almost to the point od extinction due to hunting them down. Now the populations are baclk let them flourish. Remember the food chain. We learned about it in school. Nature has its own way with dealing with things. Just because the world is over populated should we kill people? Please consider this action before our world is destroyed.

The moon has disappeared, we circle well worn grooves
of water on a single note.Music is loss forever
from the others heart which turns my own to stone.
There is a plastic toy. There is no hope.We sink
to the limits of this pool until the whistle blows
There is a man and our mind knows we will die here.
And now we are no longer blessed for the world
will not deepen to dream in.The other knows
and out of love reflects me for myself.
We see our silver skin flash by like a memory
of somewhere else.......

Youv'r been running a week and only 3 supporters! Not surprised the big or other marine orgs won't get involved, because what's in it for them? no membership, no money, no credit as the innovators.So-called animal rights people won't get involved, because marine issues aren't their remitt, they are mainly happy to think the issues are 'Greenpeace' of 'Friends of the Earth'
Most people, the 'net activists' who surf the net are happy to print and fwd their name on the endless petitions that circulate the net, that will never get printed off and used by anyone. Yet it seems ask them to think and act on an historic document like this, fraid its beyond them. Still good luck and I'll def. do something
ps/The authorities should never have panicked about the subversity of the net, its the new television!

Dear Alan,

What is meant by "being human" if one does not recognize the rights of other, living beings? The World Charter for Cetacea: A Universal Declaration of Rights does just that - by bringing an awareness and voice to our ocean cousins in an attempt to preserve their equity, and thus, their protection. Thank you for its' creation. Now the real work needs to commence by putting this Charter into action. I urge all supporters of Cetacea Defense and all Friends of Dolphins/Cetaceans to circulate and incorporate the Charter into their mandates. We must think of the world which surrounds us as a living podner - and not as something to be used - and abused.

The Charter cherishes a love for whales and dolphins and all cetaceans it points us in an ethical direction, in relationship with them. We can, end or much reduce the real threats to them. We must not fail them, for in the past, we have failed to often with other species.
Once they have gone, they will only be a memory to some or a picture in a book to others.
